Pat Pinkman

Pat Pinkman

Mid-Atlantic Director of Advising

Pat was born and raised in Reston, Virginia, where he attended South Lakes High School. As a left-handed pitcher, Pat capped off his senior campaign by leading the Seahawks to their only Northern Virginia Regional Championship. He was the pitcher of record, winning all 4 games of the regional tournament and 6 games in the post-season overall. Pat earned a baseball scholarship, and upon graduating in the spring of 1997 he enrolled in Virginia Tech. He broke into the starting rotation as a freshman, and had a streak of 6 consecutive complete games, setting records for wins by a freshman (7), pick-offs in a season (10), and capped off a tremendous freshman year winning Atlantic-10 Rookie of the Year and Louisville Slugger TPX Freshman All-American Honors. During his successful sophomore year, Pat threw another 9 complete games, finishing with a 9-4 record, and broke his single-season pick-off record with 19, breaking the career record of 25 in just 2 seasons.

During that sophomore summer in the Cape Cod Baseball League, he won Co-Pitcher of the Year, leading the league in strikeouts, innings pitched, and wins.

After suffering a shoulder injury, Pat finished out his career in the bullpen, compiling a record of 20-13 and shattering the previous record with a total of 48 pick-offs.

After his successful career with the Hokies, Pat began working full-time at the family-owned Pinkman Baseball Academy, established in 1992. For 10 years, Pat served as lead pitching and hitting instructor and eventually Vice President. Over that 10-year span, the Pinkman Baseball Academy sent over 250 athletes to play college baseball at all levels, 15 to the minor leagues, and 6 to the MLB. His brother Jeff is currently CEO and a full-time instructor, while his dad John is retired and plays an advisory role. Pat continues to teach lessons and mentor young players of all ages.

In 2012, Pat entered the world of coaching. He started his journey at Washington University in St Louis, where he spent 2 seasons. In those seasons, the Bears notched a 56-30 record and had 3 All-Region pitchers, winning the UAA conference tournament and making a trip to the 2012 Regional Tournament. Pat’s next stop was at his alma mater Virginia Tech, where he was a student-assistant coach while finishing his degree in sociology. That season the Hokies went 40-22, lost in the ACC Championship game, hosted a Regional in Blacksburg at English Field, and saw 10 players in total drafted or signed with 8 of them being pitchers. Mary mount University in Virginia was Pat’s next stop, where he and Head Coach Frank Leoni took a second-year program from an 8-26 record to a 17-17 record, and the Saints earned their first-ever birth in the Capital Athletic Conference Tournament. Pat took his first Division 1 Pitching Coach job at Fordham University in 2016. In his 2 years mentoring the pitching staff, they broke the team record for strikeouts with 414, led by First Team All-Atlantic 10 performers Jimmy Murphy and Reiss Knehr. The Rams finished the season ranked No. 1 and No. 2 in strikeouts in the conference. Murphy was then drafted in the eighth round of the 2017 MLB draft by the Baltimore Orioles. The season also marked the first time since 2011 that a Fordham player earned Freshman All-American status as pitcher Kyle Martin was honored by Baseball America, and pitcher Alvin Melendez was honored by the NCBWA. For the last 5 years, Pat was the Pitching Coach at Seton Hall University. During that time the Pirates had 7 pitchers drafted, 1 Big East Pitcher of the Year, and 8 Big East All-Conference Pitchers. As a team, Seton Hall made 3 out of 4 Big East Tournaments, finishing Runner-Up in 2018 and having the most conference wins in 2021 with sixteen.

For 20 years, Pat has focused all his experience on recruiting, mentoring, coaching, and advising student-athletes and families, working with them in a variety of capacities to educate, instruct, and inspire athletes to achieve their goals of playing baseball at the next level, and choose a quality education that is a great fit.
