Professional Career :
Under the guidance of Mike Gambino (Current Penn State Head Coach), John spent 2 years as an Assistant Coach at Boston College to start his coaching career. In his first season there, the team earned the title of 2016 NCAA Oxford Regional Champions and a Super Regional Team in Miami, FL. Following his second season at Boston College, John accepted the hitting coach position for the Black Knights of Army West Point. In the 2018 season, the Black Knights won the Patriot League for the first time since 2013 with an overall record of 37-24 and 18-7 record in Patriot League play. The team also received a berth in the NC State Regional. In 2019, John returned to Boston College but this time as their hitting coach and co recruiting coordinator. John has played a part in multiple MLB Draft selections in a development or recruiting role including Sal Frelick (Brewers), Jake Alu (Nationals), Joe Cronin (Twins), Nick Sciortino (Red Sox), Donovan Casey (Dodgers), Emmett Sheehan (Dodgers), Cody Morrissette (Marlins), Joey Mancini (Astros), Mason Pelio (Reds), Joe Suozzi (Mets), Jake Palomaki (Rays), Johnny Adams (Mariners), Jacob Hurtubise (Reds), Jon Rosoff (Tigers), Travis Honeyman (Cardinals), Joe Vetrano (Dodgers), Luke Gold (Tigers).

Playing Career:
John’s college career began in 2009 for head coach Nick Giaquinto as a Sacred Heart University Pioneer. He was a two year team captain, 2 time All – NEC player, 2011 NEC Tournament MVP, and two year NEC champion with NCAA regional trips to Clemson and NC State. He leaves behind in the Sacred Heart University record books, the most triples in a season (8) & career (17), most career RBI (170), most career total bases (379), second in career hits (264) & fourth in a season (76), third in career stolen bases (66), third in career ABs (774), fourth in career runs scored (135), and seventh in career doubles (45). In 2013, following his career at Sacred Heart, John Murphy was a 2012 Cape Cod Baseball league all star & a 6th round draft pick (194th overall) by the New York Yankees. He was the highest baseball draft pick in SHU’s history.
